A flight mechanic killed in accident at airport in Japan

A flight mechanic working at Kagoshima Airport was killed when he got stuck beneath an aircraft wing which he was tugging towards a hangar.

About 10 mechanics working for commercial airliner, Japan Air Commuter had been moving an aircraft to the hangar for maintenance at Kagoshima Airport in Kirishima City. The wing tipped towards the left, leaving the mechanic trapped beneath it.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Kagoshima city on board a medical helicopter, but died two hours later.

Police say the victim was 31 years old. They say he had been carrying out periodic checks of Japan Coast Guard aircraft with other mechanics.

The exact cause of the accident is unknown and is being examined.
