A strong earthquake shook the central Philippine island of Leyte on Thursday. Local media report at least 2 people were killed and more than 100 injured.

The US Geological Survey said the magnitude-6.5 quake occurred shortly after 4 PM, local time, and its epicenter was in Leyte.

Media reports say a 3-story commercial facility collapsed in a town near the epicenter, killing one person. Footage shows a damaged building and a crushed car nearby.

Reports say the quake triggered a landslide in another town that hit a house and killed a woman.

Police say they are concerned people may be trapped inside several collapsed buildings and are trying to accelerate rescue work.
