Japanese low-cost carrier Vanilla Air has launched regular flights connecting Narita International Airport and Mactan-Cebu International Airport in the Philippines.
The unit of ANA holdings Inc. became the first Japanese carrier to offer regular services–one daily round trip–between Narita in Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo, and the resort island of Cebu.
As a number of Japanese people are now coming to Cebu for not only sightseeing but for studying languages, the new route is expected to attract robust demand, Vanilla Air said.
Cebu Island is famous for white sand beaches, and City of Cebu is knowns as the “second city” in the Philippines after Manila.
The first flight from Narita to Cebu on Sunday was packed to capacity, with Japanese passengers occupying some 80 pct of all seats.
