Is JLPT important?

JLPT is a tool to measure Japanese proficiency of foreigners and is used by recruitment to evaluate linguistic ability of applicants.
Although JLPT does not completely indicate one’s ability to understand Japanese, it helps certificate’s holder one-step closer to his/her desired jobs.
According to data of recruitment website-Daijob.com, around 58 percent of job offers require that applicants speak “fluent” Japanese, and 39 percent say their applicants should be able to speak “business-level” Japanese.
Fluent can be construed as N1 level, while business-level could be translated as N2 level.

However, JLPT examination is held only twice a year.
And in the worst case that you fail, you must wait for next 6 months to retake the test.
