The autumn leaves are now at their most colorful in Ubagadaira on Mount Nasu, north of Tokyo.
The area, which is about 1,600 meters above sea level, is a noted viewing spot for autumn foliage, as the leaves begin to turn earlier than other places on the mountain.
The stunning vistas of red and yellow leaves attract many climbers and hikers.
A woman said she was struck by the beauty of the autumn colors when the fog disappeared.
A local ropeway company says the autumn foliage was at its best late last week, about a week later than usual. It says the colors are more vivid than last year.
The beautiful scenery at Ubagadaira is expected to last for about another week.
