Evacuation order issued for entire city amid torrential rain in Aichi Pref.

The city's disaster management headquarters said roads in various areas of the city were flooded.

The municipal government here issued an evacuation order for the whole of Inuyama covering some 74,000 people in around 30,000 households shortly after 10:30 a.m. on July 14, after the city was struck with heavy rainfall.

The city’s disaster management headquarters said roads in various areas of the city were flooded, with some homes flooded above floor level and some below. The spillover of water for agricultural use was also reported. Officials have set up shelters in 45 locations throughout the city.

The Nagoya Local Meteorological Observatory announced heavy rainfall the same morning, saying that rainfall reached 120 millimeters over the one-hour period up until 10:40 a.m. around the cities of Komaki and Inuyama.

The observatory and the Aichi Prefectural Government are warning residents to be on their guard against mudslides.
